The top is solid oak and has a moulded edge with partially repaired split snape wire hinges. The chest is heavy and sturdy. |

There is a short oak centre brace to the underside of top which was added many years ago to prevent separation of the planks which form the top. It has original malleable iron lock (which still works but the original snib is missing, no key). A replacement leather strap has been fitted to stop the top from falling back too far. |

Most of the joints are original wooden pegged type. The front rails and styles have GUILLOCHE carving. Inside a new candle box has been constructed from aged oak. There are some old dings and marks consistent with a piece of furniture thats over 300 years old. There is also some wear to the feet and a few woodworm holes which are long since gone.
